Recognizing and Mitigating Health Care Disparities in Ovarian Cancer: The Community Cancer Experience
Significant disparities in ovarian cancer exist across the spectrum of care. More specifically, decreased survival, advanced stage at diagnosis, adherence to guideline concordant care, and undergoing genetic testing all may be influenced by factors such as race/ethnicity, insurance status, socioeconomic status, hospital characteristics and rurality.
This webinar will help recognize some of these disparities and shed light on mitigation strategies. More specifically we will discuss:
- Barriers to access of guideline concordant care in community/rural settings vs that practiced in large metro areas with larger cancer centers
- Creation of a comprehensive support team to ensure access to and delivery of quality care. This will include a discussion on building a team around nurse navigators, chemotherapy administrators and nurses, clinical teams, nutritionists, and genetic counselors
- The unique patient challenges in community settings such as travel difficulty, language barriers, cultural and spiritual differences, and being a member of a disadvantaged minority group
